Zach came to me this past spring with an idea of a nordic sleeve to add to an existing piece he had on his forearm. He wanted to make a statement with the piece, and after talking at our initial consultation, we came up with the idea of a large God Mask on the upper arm and he let me take the reigns with the rest. He just wanted “Nordic Viking style Knotwork”. . After a few sketches, we settled on this #godmask and I added some details and elements including Raven Heads, a Wyrm and a Beast to flow down onto his lower forearm. - Creating a flow that wraps has always been tricky, but studying ancient Viking-age stone carvings where the ancient craftsmen (or craftswomen) had a shape of the rock to work within. I’ve been putting a lot of time into studying the ways they used the areas of the stones or jewelry to enhance the design. I’m still a student when it comes to ancient relics and techniques, but I learn more by studying it every single day. . The progress you see here is from a 2 Day Session Block. We have plans to add design elements into the Knotwork and Beasts using Color and ancient patterns as designs. We may tie in a few Custom Bindrunes in areas left open to accommodate. We have 2 more days to go ( 1 more session block) to complete this Nordic Tattoo Sleeve. Maybe a partial 3rd day depending on the complexity’s. We’re thinking early spring of ‘27. .
