Jake came to me back in 2021/2002 with an idea… he wanted to get a full sleeve based on the Oseberg ship carvings. I jumped at the chance; but I was quite intimidated at the time. I had never studied this style, it is a bit strange to say the least, flowing beasts of unknown origin with many patterns and all very detailed carvings. . After a lot of studying, doodling, drawing and playing around with various layouts, I decided to draw the whole thing on Jake’s arms to maintain the proper flow. It was tricky at first, but I managed to make it all come together in a unique style giving tribute to the ship. You can scroll down and see this piece unfold over the years on my instagram feed. . Over the years, my methods and styles have changed when it comes to Nordic tattoos. These days this tattoo would most likely take 2 of my 3-day session blocks, but this particular tattoo has taken 6 sessions so far over 4 years with one more to go. . We both have grown as humans during the past 4/5 years and it’s fun to look back at how much I have grown as an artist in that time, especially when it comes to Nordic inspired tattoos. . Jake’s tattoo is more than just ink; it’s a tribute to one of the greatest Viking ships ever unearthed. The Oseberg Ship, an elegant yet powerful vessel, carried not just warriors but the legacy of an era where the sea was both a path and a destiny. .
